When my son entered kindergarten last year, hubby and I did our best to become as involved as we could in our son’s school because we know parental involvement is an integral part of making a school what it is and our son’s success is dependent on it. We joined the PTA, volunteered as much as we could in the classroom, managed the school’s website and introduced and implemented new ways of fundraising for his school.
As many of you know, just recently, Safeway stopped participating in the eScrip program which generated a large source of revenue for our son’s school when people shopped at Safeway and had their club card linked to their eScrip account. Needles to say, it was a HUGE loss for our school and I have been researching new ways to assist with making up for that loss with other ways of fundraising.
Today, while researching fundraising, I came across an app called Shoparoo that allows you to snap a photo of your shopping receipts on your phone and by doing so, donations are earned for the school of your choice.
I added the app to my phone today and was quickly intrigued and impressed with it. Basically, receipts are classified as Grocery and Non-Grocery receipts. When you scan your Grocery receipt with your phone, you earn what is called Roo points. When you scan Non-Grocery receipts, you earn Sweepstakes entries. Roo points convert to money for the school of your choice and the earnings are based on the total amount spent of the receipt you scan. Here is the breakdown:
< $10 = 10 Roo Points
$10 – $50 = 20 Roo Points
$50 – $100 = 30 Roo Points
$100+ = 40 Roo Points
500 points converts to $1 being donated to your school!
You have to scan receipts within 14 days of the purchase to receive anything for it and you can submit up to 20 grocery receipts within a 7 day period. There is NO limit to how much a school can receive. Donation checks are sent out once per year in August to the school and will only be issued if the school has earned at least $50. If they haven’t, then the balance will roll over into the next fundraising year.
Since signing up earlier today, I have already earned 1070 points which is $2 for the school I selected to donate to! I got this by entering one receipt valued at $29.xx, by connecting my email to my account, taking 2 surveys that took less than a minute, and connecting my Facebook account to my Shoparoo account. Currently, it only shows 2 people donating to my son’s school thru the program so imagine the potential in earnings for the school if we got more people to sign up! I have read a lot of people compare this to the Box Tops program and how much easier it is…certainly it doesn’t replace Box Tops but is a great way to supplement the Box Tops program with even more earnings!
I plan to spread the word to everybody I know and encourage all of you to do the same. If you don’t have kids that go to a school listed with the program, you can always sign up for another school in your local area or give your receipts to another person who might use the Shoparoo app so they can generate earnings for the school of their choice!
If you have any questions that I haven’t addressed here I urge you to check out the FAQs on Shoparoo’s website – it answers a lot of questions I had.
Now what are you waiting for – download the app on your phone and get started! I know you all have receipts sitting in your purse or wallet from the past 2 weeks that you could scan RIGHT NOW to earn money for the school of your choice!
